About Us

The 55 North Community Centre, formerly the Golden Age Centre, is Grande Prairie’s Seniors’ Recreational Centre. The 55 North Community Centre was incorporated on March 10, 1975. Situated on the banks of Bear Creek, the Community Centre offers various activities to keep our members happy and active, including dancing, exercise classes like chair yoga and walking groups, karaoke, card games, dinners, bingo, and more.

Joe Daigle - President

President – Joe Daigle

A former fire chief who has sat on several boards, Joe moved to Grande Prairie four years ago and brings with him a wealth of leadership experience and a deep commitment to community service.

Vice President – Bob Gillespie

Vice President – Bob Gillespie

Bob has been a dedicated member of the Community Centre for many years, having served in various roles on the board. He’s a familiar and friendly face around the Community Centre, and is always ready to lend a hand—always with a smile.
 Secretary – Gladys Love

Secretary – Gladys Love

Gladys is a strong and steady presence on the board, known for her wisdom and her thoughtful, fact-based decision making. She is also a cherished friend, mother, and grandmother, bringing warmth and insight to everything she does.

Treasurer – Bea Lauzon

Treasurer – Bea Lauzon

Bea is a long-time resident of Grande Prairie and a seasoned businesswoman with over 30 years of experience running successful businesses. Always active at the Community Centre, she’s known for her hands-on approach.

Elaine is a dedicated and compassionate leader who is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of seniors in her community. She’s committed to creating a vibrant and inclusive community by offering a range of events and activities that cater to seniors’ interests and needs, helping to combat loneliness, isolation, and disengagement, which are common challenges that many seniors face.

Sue Reid

Sue Reid

Sue wears many hats at the Community Centre—whether she’s leading bingo, helping with our social media, or organizing fundraisers, she does it all with energy and dedication. She’s a true example of commitment and community spirit.

Wendy Nurcombe

Wendy Nurcombe

Wendy is an active ager who plays a key role in our mobility programs, whether it’s hiking, biking, or walking. With over 20 years of experience at the Grande Prairie Public Library, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for promoting healthy, active living.

 Wade Fleming

Wade Fleming

Wade has called Grande Prairie home since 1995 and is a familiar face at the Little Theatre, where he dedicated 25 years of his life to supporting and contributing to its success. We are fortunate to have Wade as part of our board, where his wisdom and strength are invaluable assets to our team.

Peggy Reynolds

Peggy Reynolds

Peggy has been a long-time member of the Community Centre and is a dedicated volunteer, always ready to lend a hand. Whether she’s serving up pancake breakfasts, leading floor shuffleboard, or helping wherever needed, her contributions are truly invaluable.

Cindy Reid

Cindy Reid

Cindy is at the heart of the Community Centre, where we care for each other like family. As the lead of the Care Committee, she ensures that those who are sick receive a meal, and those who are isolated get a visit—always showing compassion and support when it’s needed most.

As the manager of our venue rentals—a key revenue source for our nonprofit—Garry delivers exceptional service to every customer. His dedication makes him an invaluable part of our team and his upbeat humour is truly appreciated around the center.

Barb is a vital part of our team, ensuring all our events are fully staffed with volunteers. Whether it’s bingo afternoons, kitchen duty, fundraisers, dances, or special events, she makes sure everything is covered and runs smoothly.

Chef – Mike Hasibar

Hailing from Europe, Mike is a French-trained chef with 25 years of experience. He ensures that the meals served to our seniors are always fresh, healthy, and nutritious. Friendly and approachable, Mike always serves with a smile, bringing warmth to every meal.
